Building What Matters

As Deacon Construction marks its 45th anniversary, we reflect not just on the projects completed or the milestones reached, but on the values that have remained constant through decades of change and innovation. Ours is a story shaped by people: leaders, partners, and teams who believed from the very beginning that how work is done matters as much as what is delivered. Today, that belief continues to guide everything we do.

Our industry is one of consistent change, and adjusting to that change for 45 years while maintaining our core DNA has been no small feat. This year, key players in our firm have taken the time to share their thoughts on where we've been, where we are, and where we're going.

"In 1981, SD Deacon was founded in the headwinds of an economic downturn in the Pacific Northwest. That courageous and entrepreneurial spirit became the foundation of the company and has shaped who we are over the past 45 years. We continue to be called to act with courage, seek out opportunity, and create growth for the company and for our people."

- Andrew Naegeli, Chief Executive Officer

Q1 Update: Our Vision

Founder, former CEO, Chairman of the Board, and company namesake Steve Deacon has spent more than half a century in construction, and his perspective is clear: while methods, tools, and technologies evolve, the fundamentals of success do not. Deacon Construction was built on the conviction that fairness, honesty, and respect—especially in difficult moments—are what define a company's character. While the finished product may look similar to what others deliver, we have always believed the process our clients experience with us is what sets us apart.

"The most important things we have to offer are the way we treat others and how we handle challenges."

- Steve Deacon, Founder

Q2 Update: Operations and Shared Values

Chief Operating Officer Christine Schlicker sees our firm's 45-year journey as the result of people aligned around shared values and an entrepreneurial spirit. From the earliest days, the company was shaped by individuals who cared deeply about both quality and relationships: a mindset that has allowed Deacon to evolve while staying true to our roots. Today, that means embracing innovation, smart risk-taking, and purposeful change, all grounded in our core values of honesty and fairness, teamwork, open communication, and continuous improvement. Christine describes today's Deacon as a company that honors where it came from while always looking toward what's next.

"Over the years, Deacon hasn’t been afraid to adapt as the industry, our clients, and our teams have changed. Some of our most defining moments came from facing change when it wasn’t the easy choice."
