Deacon completed the ground-up construction of Ardea at Totem Lake, a seven-story, 137,034-sf affordable senior housing community delivering 170 units for veterans and seniors earning 40–60% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Located adjacent to regional transit, the project was envisioned as more than housing—it serves as a community hub with shared amenity spaces, staff offices, and fully wheelchair-accessible design. Named after the great blue heron (Ardea herodias), the building thoughtfully responds to its environment, preserving nearby wetlands and offering residents visual and physical connections to nature. Through disciplined preconstruction, early planning, and strong trade coordination, the Deacon team delivered the project on schedule while achieving meaningful cost savings for the owner, with final costs closely aligned with early budget projections.
