This project included the demolition of IKEA’s existing parking garage and original store as well as the construction of IKEA’s new retail store while IKEA remained open. The new retail store is 399,000 sf, two levels, and it sits on a 29-acre site with 1,700 parking spaces. It includes 50 model rooms, three model home interiors, a children’s play area, and a restaurant.
Deacon installed 3,268 solar panels, the largest array in Washington state, which will create enough power to provide electricity for 131 homes annually. The store’s 244,000-sf solar array consists of a 1.13-megawatt system which will produce about 1,261,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually for the store. This is the equivalent of reducing 886 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, which is equal to the emissions of 187 cars.
