Lotus Court Opens its Doors to Public
Last week, project collaborators, financiers, community members, local leaders, and newly housed residents of the Low Income Housing Institute’s (LIHI) recently completed Lotus Court gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the housing development in Olympia, WA. Speakers Olympia Mayor Dontae Payne, Lotus Court resident Ellen Supplee, State Representative Beth Doglio, Housing Authority of Thurston County Director Craig Chance, and others inspired the crowd with words about the importance of providing supportive housing to those in need as well as how the local community has bolstered these efforts.
Lotus Court is a low-income, senior housing mixed-use apartment complex intended for the occupation of singles and couples aged 55 or older, including those who are living with disabilities, served in the military, or were formerly homeless. Residents are promised fair rent payments capped at 30% of their gross yearly income.
Deacon Construction team members proudly collaborated with Encore Architects, Yu & Trochalakis PLLC, Eagle Harbor Associates, and Tradesmen Electric to complete this 48,500-sf affordable housing building. The new ground-up development hosts administrative offices, clinics, laundry facilities, common areas, and tuck-under parking on its first level with 64 residential units—40 studios and 24 one-bedrooms—throughout the four floors above. The building and its courtyard feature sustainably designed assets such as eco-conscious landscaping, plumbing, lighting, and on-site groundwater filtration.
JPMorgan Chase, Raymond James, the State Housing Trust Fund, Thurston County, the city of Olympia, Banner Bank, Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, Washington State Housing Finance Commission, The Home Depot Foundation, and HUD all financed Lotus Court. Residents’ rent will be subsidized by the Housing Authority of Thurston County.
